BORN HULL 28/07/1890. SON OF MRS ADELINE BAILEY, WHO LIVED AT, 60 PEASBODY BUILDINGS, SHADWELL, EAST LONDON. (NAVAL RECORDS). HE SERVED WITH THE ROYAL NAVY RESERVE, ON MINESWEEPERS. DIED OF INFLUENZA, ON 20/09/1919, AGED 29. HE IS BURIED AT DEAL CEMETERY, KENT.
Joseph was the son of Joseph Henry Bailey (1851-1901) and Adeline Ellam (1866-1944). He enlisted with the Royal Naval Reserve on 14th October 1914 , and his described as having tattoos on his right forearm, Flags, anchor, women’s head and a bird. Interesting his brothers service records confirm he had the same tattoos. Joseph was assigned to the Mine Clearing section when he died from anthrax in the Royal Marine infirmary, Deal.
After the war most of his family settled in Michigan USA, his youngest sister married a US Servicemen and emigrated to America, along with another sister, his mother and brother who had also served during the First World War, 7068 Private Walter Edwin Bailey, MM, Kings Royal Rifle Corps.
