BORN HULL 1882. ELDEST SON OF JOHN GLEN BAMFORTH (1855-1930) & ANNIE ELIZABETH BARRETT (1859-1929), OF, 22 , NORFOLK STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS ADDRESS) AND 1 HALL STREET, HULL. SON OF A PICTURE FRAME MAKER. HE HAD SIX SISTERS AND TWO BROTHERS.

HE WAS AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF ST MARYS CHURCH, LOWGATE & EMPLOYED WITH MESSRS KIRK & SONS, AT CHAPEL LANE, HULL.

HE BECAME A CAPTAIN IN THE SALVATION ARMY AND WORKED IN THE SCRUBWOOD PARISH, ELLESBOROUGH, BUCKS, BEFORE ENLISTING. HE RESIDED IN HAYES, MIDDLESEX. HE MARRIED FRANCES LILY BENN (1892-1933) AT HARLINGTON, MIDDLESEX, ON 7TH JANUARY, 1913. THEY LIVED AT THE ELLESBOROUGH RECTORY, BUCKINGHAMSHIRE (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).

HE ENLISTED AT HOUNSLOW. SERVED  WITH THE 8TH ROYAL FUSILIERS. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 6YJ OCTOBER 1915. HE WAS REPORTED MISSING ON 7TH JULY AND THEN KILLED, ON 07/07/1916, AGED 34.

HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, SOMME, FRANCE. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, FRANCES. SHE REMARRIED A CIVILIAN, GEORGE JOHNS, ON 30TH APRIL 1918.

HE IS LISTED ON ST MARY’S LOWGATE ROLL OF HONOUR, LOWGATE, HULL.

HIS DEATH WAS ALSO REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 29TH NOVEMBER 1916, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
