BORN BRIGG, LINCS, 1877. SON OF WILLIAM AND ANN BANNISTER. HE MARRIED IN BRIGG IN 1904. HIS WIFE, ALMINA JORDAN BANNISTER (1885-1957) LIVED AT 8, CARISBROOKE AVENUE, DE LA POLE AVENUE, HULL (WAR PENSION & CWGC ADDRESS). THEY HAD TWO SONS, EDWIN AND WILLIAM. HE WORKED AS A PRINTER MACHINIST.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. JOINED THE ROYAL ARMY SERVICE CORPS. ATTACHED TO THE 56TH SIEGE BTY. HE DIED OF WOUNDS AT THE 3RD CANADIAN HOSPITAL, ON 01/04/1918, AGED 40.
BURIED AT DOULLENS COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION NO.1, ON THE SOMME. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “IT’S ONLY THOSE WHO HAVE LOVED & LOST KNOW THIS WAR’S BITTER COST”
