HE ENLISTED IN HULL. JOINED THE 10TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIEMENT (HULL PALS). SERVED IN EGYPT AND FRANCE. TRANSFERRED TO THE MACHINE GUN SECTION. DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 06/08/1916, AGED 19, AT NO;7 GENERAL HOSPITAL, ST OMER.
HIS NAME IS LISTED ON THE NORTHUMBERLAND AVENUE ROLL OF HONOUR AS DIED OF WOUNDS. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, ANNIE.
HE IS BURIED AT LONGUENESSE (ST. OMER) SOUVENIR CEMETERY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “SLEEP ON DEAR SON AND TAKE YOUR REST WE MISS YOU MOST WHO LOVED YOU BEST”
