BORN HULL 1885. SON OF ROBERT & ANN BARNES, OF 44 NORNABELL STREET, 18 BERSHIRE STREET, HULL AND COURTNEY STREET, HULL. HE RESIDED AT 44 , BERKSHIRE STREET, HULL.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE 7TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. PROMOTED TO SERGEANT. KILLED IN ACTION, ON THE SOMME, 10/07/1916, AGED 31. COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.

HIS WAR PENSION WENT TO FLORENCE ALICE BARNES, AT 92, NORTHUMBERLAND AVENUE, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).

HE IS ALSO COMMEMORATED ON THE COURTNEY STREET, ROLL OF HONOUR. Hull Daily Mail 10 October 1916.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 31/10/1917. *

HIS BROTHERS, ARTHUR & GEORGE WERE ALSO KILLED IN THE WAR. THEY ARE REMEMBERED ON THE HEDON ROAD FAMILY GRAVE.
