BORN HULL 15/09/1894. SON OF ALFRED BARRASS & GERTRUDE BROWN, OF 9, COBDEN COTTAGES, WESTMORELAND STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS) & 4, SPRING TERRACE, SPRING STREET. HIS DECEASED FATHER BELONGED TO THE 3RD EYR. HIS WIDOWED MOTHER LIVED AT 4 SPRING TERRACE, SPRING STREET, HULL. EDUCATED AT WARNES STREET BOARD SCHOOL, HULL. HE ENLISTED IN BEVERLEY ON 23/06/1911. PLACED ON RESERVE AND CALLED UP ON THE OUTBREAK OF WAR. HE TRANSFERRED TO THE 1ST EAST YORKSHIRES, AT THE FRONT. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION ON 08/12/1914, AGED 20. SHOT BY A SNIPER WHILE FETCHING WATER. HE WAS UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, GERTRUDE.
THREE WEEKS BEFORE HIS DEATH HE WROTE HOME SAYING THAT ALL WAS WELL, HOW PLEASED HE WAS WITH FAMILY GIFTS SENT TO HIM AND WISHING ALL HIS FRIENDS A HAPPY NEW YEAR. HIS DEATH AND PHOTOGRAPH WERE REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 4TH JANUARY 1915. *
HIS LETTER HOME WAS PRINTED IN THE HULL TIMES ON 09/01/1915, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
