BORN HULL 1898. SON OF GEORGE WINDLE BARTON (1870-1905) & ADA ANN MOWER (1875-1926). HIS FATHER DIED IN 1905 AND HIS MOTHER RE-MARRIED. HE LIVED WITH HIS GRANDMOTHER, MARY ANN MOWER (1850-1941), AT 4, WELLINGTON MART, HUMBER STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).
HE ENLISTED AT HULL, ON THE FIRST DAY THAT WAR WAS DECLARED, AGED ONLY 16. (HDM 02/09/1916.) SERVED WITH THE 7TH EAST YORKSHRE REGIMENT. HE WAS DANGEROUSLY WOUNDED, ON THE 14TH JULY 1916, DURING THE SOMME OFFENSIVE. HE DIED AT BOULOGNE HOSPITAL, THREE DAYS LATER, AGED 18.
HE WAS THE GRANDSON OF MR & MRS MARY ANN MOWER, WHO RAISED HIM SINCE INFANCY AT 4 WELLINGTON MART, WELLINGTON STREET, HULL.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 8TH AUGUST 1916. *
HE LEFT HIS ARMY EFFECTS TO HIS GRANDMOTHER, MARY ANN MOWER, AT 4, WELLINGTON MART, HUMBER STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). TWO OF THEIR SONS WERE ALSO SERVING IN THE ARMY. ONE OF HER SONS, PRIVATE, HENRY MOWER, 14/66, EYR WAS ALSO KILLED ON 17/07/1916.
