HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE 4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. WOUNDED DURING THE SOMME OFFENSIVE, IN 1916. INVALIDIED TO CAMBRIDGE HOSPITAL. HE WAS FEATURED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 14/08/1916. *

HIS WAR PENSION WENT TO HIS UNMARRIED WIFE, ELLEN TOWNEND, AT 3, ROSE TERRACE, ALFRED STREET, HULL. THEY HAD ONE SON, RICHARD, BORN, ON 16/11/1903.
HIS BROTHER, HAROLD FRED BAXTER, SERVED WITHTHE 9TH NORTH STAFFS, AND WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 01/10/1917, aged 34
