BORN ROTHWELL, YORKS 24/02/1878, SON OF JOHN (1855-1950) AND FANNY BERRIDGE (1855-1950), OF ROTHWELL. A COAL MINER (1911 CENSUS) AND EX RECKITT’S WORKER. HE EMIGRATED TO AUSTRALIA IN 1901. RETURNED TO ENGLAND.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED IN THE 5TH & 6TH BATTALION OF THE NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 01/10/1916, AGED 31. COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, SOMME, FRANCE.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, JOHN. HE ALSO LEFT HIS FATHER £69 IN HIS WILL. HIS NAME IS RECORDED IN THE RECKITT’S WW1 BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE,
