Bettinson, John Henry

BORN HULL 1893. KNOWN AS ‘JACK’. SON OF WILLIAM BETTINSON (1855-1912) AND ALICE BELL (1862-1943), OF  1 GOODWIN TERRACE, GOODWIN STREET, HULL (ARMY ADDRESS) AND 6, WESTBOURNE TERRACE, GOODWIN STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HE HAD ONE BROTHER AND THREE SISTERS. WORKED AS AN OIL MILL LABOURER. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 7 INCHES TALL, 35-37 INCH CHEST. HIS FINANCEE WAS JENNIE KIRBY.

HE ENLISTED IN THE HULL PALS, ON 16/11/1914. SERVED WITH THE 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, IN EGYPT. ARRIVED IN FRANCE 08/03/1916. WOUNDED AND KILLED IN ACTION AT SERRE, ON 13/11/1916, AGED 23. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 1 YEAR AND 112 DAYS. BURIED AT EUSTON ROAD CEMETERY, ON THE SOMME.

HIS ONLY BROTHER, PRIVATE, WILLIAM BETTINSON, 10153, 7TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 12/05/1917, AGED 22. THEIR ARMY EFFECTS WERE BOTH LEFT TO THEIR MOTHER, ALICE.
