HIS ONLY OTHER BROTHER, WILLIAM BALNSHARD (1871-1915) WAS LOST ON THE TRAWLER, ‘SABINA’, ON 21/05/1915, AGED 43. THEY LEFT SISTERS, BETSY, MARY, BERTHA, AND ELIZABETH.
HMT Gambri, built by Cook, Welton & Gemmell, Ltd., Beverley in 1916 and operated at the time of her loss by Royal Navy, was a British navy trawler of 274 tons.
On January 18th, 1918, HMT Gambri was sunk by a mine from the German submarine UC-71 (Ernst Steindorff), 3/4 miles off the Royal Sovereign lightvessel. 21 persons were lost.
