Booth, John James Henry

BORN HULL 26/02/1894. HE MARRIED, ESTHER LIZZIE STEPHENSON (BORN 10/4/1889) AT HULL IN 1908. THEY HAD FIVE CHILDREN, LIVING AT 132, BEAN STREET, HULL AND 59, STRICKLAND STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HIS WIFE DIED ON 7/11/1915 AFTER HIS DEATH AND HER MOTHER LOOKED AFTER THEIR CHILDREN.

HE HAD ENLISTED IN THE LINCOLNSHIRE REGIMENT IN 1912, AGED 18. THEN WORKED AS A DOCK LABOURER.

TRANSFERRED TO THE ROYAL NAVY RESERVE. LOST ON THE FISHING VESSEL ‘TERN’, WHICH RAN AGROUND, OFF WHITEN HEAD, ON 23/02/1915. SIX LIVES WERE LOST.

HIS NAME IS LISTED IN THE ST BARNABAS BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE AND THE CHATHAM NAVAL MEMORIAL. HE LEFT BROTHERS, GEORGE W, THOMAS & EDGAR BOOTH.
