BORN HULL 1889. SON OF HARRY BRATTAN (1854-1899) AND ELLEN SUTTON (1856-1947). HIS MOTHER LIVED AT 16, BRIGHTON STREET, HULL. HE HAD FIVE BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS. HE WORKED AS A WAREHOUSE FOREMAN. ENLISTED AS A COAL TRIMMER FOR THE MERCHANT NAVY. HE SERVED ON THE TRAWLER ‘ARGYLL’ AND DIED ON 15/01/1915, AGED 24. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE HESSLE ROAD, NAVAL MEMORIAL, HULL. THE “ARGYLL” WAS SUNK ON 15/06/1915, BY A MINE FROM THE UC -11, ESE 12 MILES FROM HARWICH. SEVEN CREW WERE LOST.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 15/01/1918.
