2nd Lt, Frederick David Brown, 13th EYR

BORN HULL 1884. SON OF JOHN AND ANN BROWN, OF 86 PORTER STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS). HE HAD FOUR BROTHERS AND TWO SISTERS. WAS IN BUSINESS WITH HIS FATHER AND WORKED AS HARNESS MAKER AND LEATHER MERCHANT. HE WAS ALSO A LEADING MEMBER OF THE HULL BOYS CLUB, ROPER STREET, HULL.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 02/09/1914. SERVED WITH THE HULL COMMERCIALS BATTALION AND TRANSFERRED TO THE 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. HE WAS COMMISSIONED AND PROMOTED IN FEBRUARY 1917. TRANSFERRED TO THE 13TH EYR. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 08/03/1917, AGED 33.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TOHIS FATHER, JOHN.

HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL. HIS NAME IS LISTED ON THE HULL TECHNICAL COLLEGE MEMORIAL.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 12/10/1917, WITH PHOTOGRAPH. *

HIS BROTHERS ALSO SERVED IN THE WAR.

Note: census records state his middle name was Daniel. CWGC records record him as Frederick David Brown.
