BORN HULL 1897. SON OF ALFRED THOMAS & ANNIE KEZIA BROWN, OF AYSGARTH, PROMENADE, WITHERNSEA. HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS LANCE COPORAL, IN THE KINGS OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY. HE DIED OF GAS WOUNDS, ON 28/07/1917, AGED 21. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, ALFRED. BURIED AT COXYDE MILITARY CEMETERY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION READS, “MEMORIES FRAGRANT AND BEAUTIFUL FROM ALL HIS LOVED ONES AT W’SEA”
HIS BROTHER, 2/LT, ROBERT HENRY BROWN, 9TH WYR, WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 16/01/1917 AGED 24. BOTH BROTHERS WERE BORN IN HULL. AND HAVE THE SAME GRAVE INSCRIPTION. THEY ARE BOTH COMMEMORATED ON THE WITHERNSEA WW1 MEMORIAL.
