BORN HULL 1895. SON OF WILLIAM HARRY BLANCHARD BROWN (1857-1917) & MARY ANN CARMICHAEL (1858-1946), OF 188, SOMERSET STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS) AND 82, ST GEORGES ROAD, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). SON OF A FISHERMAN SKIPPER. HE WAS THE BROTHER OF ALBERT, AND WILLIAM HENRY, OLIVE, MARRION, IDA AND PHYLLIS BROWN. HE WORKED AS A SHIP’S FITTER’S APPRENTICE.
HE SERVED IN THE MERCHANT NAVY. WORKED AS A SHIP ENGINEMAN. HE WAS LOST AT SEA ON 16/09/1917, AGED 22. HIS FATHER DIED THREE MONTHS LATER ON 12/12/1917.
WILF’S DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 17/09/1917, 09/09/1919 & 12/12/1919. THERE ARE NO CWGC RECORDS OF HIS DEATH.
HIS BROTHER, ALBERT BLANCHARD BROWN, SERVED AS PRIVATE, 307940, WITH THE WEST RIDING REGIMENT. HE WAS WOUNDED AND DISCHARGED FROM THE ARMY ON 19/09/1917. HE LEFT A WIDOW, GERTRUDE ALICE BROWN.
