ELDEST SON OF ELIZABETH MASON (1866-1959) & WILLIAM HENRY BUFFEY (1866-1942), OF 40, WASHINGTON STREET (1901 CENSUS), 194, BEVERLEY ROAD, HULL (ARMY ADDRESS) AND 99, DE GREY STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION & CWGC ADDRESS) & 14, BEVERLEYROAD, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). SON OF A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT DEALER. ONE OF NINE CHILDREN. HE HAD FIVE SISTERS AND THREE BROTHERS. HE ASSISTED HIS FATHER IN THE STEPNEY PIANO BUSINESS, AT 194 BEVERLEY ROAD, HULL (1911 CENSUS).
HE WAS A BLUNDELL PAINT WORKER, WHEN HE ENLISTED. HIS ARMY RECORDS DESCRIBE HIM AS 5 FOOT, 8 INCHES TALL, 141 LBS WEIGHT, 36-38 INCH CHEST, GOOD PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 06/04/1915. SERVED WITH THE 13TH EYR (HULL PALS), IN EGYPT. TRANSFERRED TO FRANCE ON 29/02/1916. KILLED IN ACTION ON 13/11/1916, AGED 23. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 1 YEAR AND 222 DAYS. UNMARRIED WITH NO CHILDREN. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, THEY INCLUDED A MIRROR, RAZOR STONE, LETTERS, METAL CIG CASE. HE IS REMEMBERED ON ST MARY’S CHURCH WW1 MEMORIAL, SCULCOATES LANE, HULL.
