BORN HULL 14/01/1885. HULL PAL. SON OF ROBERT & MARTHA (HUNN) BURNS. ONE OF SIX CHILDREN. MARRIED SEPTEMBER 1906. WIFE NAOMI AMELIA (HAIRSINE) & FIVE CHILDREN. HE HAD SERVED WITH THE EYR FOR 6 YEARS BEFORE THE WAR. WORKED AS A LABOURER AND RULLEYMAN. ENLISTED BEVERLEY 1/09/1914. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 6 INCHES TALL. 136 LBS, 35 INCH CHEST, HAZEL EYES, BROWN HAIR, FAIR COMPLEXION AND ‘GOOD’ CHARACTER. HE ARRIVED FRANCE 10/02/1915. HE WAS WOUNDED IN THE BACK BY A HIGH EXPLOSIVE SHELL, AT YPRES ON 28/04/1915. RETURNED TO ENGLAND FOR RECOVER (HDM 06/08/1915). DISCHARGED WITH TUBERCULOSIS OF THE LUNGS ON 21/01/1916. PASSED AWAY AFTER LONG AND PAINFUL ILLNESS. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 5TH MAY 1917, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
