BORN BOSTON, LINCS, 26/05/1869. SON OF GEORGE ROBERT & HANNAH BURSNALL. MARRIED SCULCOATES. HULL, 1895. CATHERINE ELIZABETH FIELDING WHO DIED IN 1896. THEY HAD A DAUGHTER ISOBEL. HIS SECOND WIFE ELIZABETH CLAPHAM AND SON JAMES LIVED AT THIS CWGC ADDRESS. FRANCIS BURSNALL SERVED IN THE SOUTH AFRICA WAR. HE WAS A REGULAR ROYAL NAVY STOKER WHEN THE WAR BEGAN. KILLED IN ACTION, IN THE NORTH SEA, ON 22/09/1914, AGED 46. HMS CRESSEY WAS SUNK BY SUBMARINE, WITH THE LOSS OF 560 LIVES. HE LEFT A WIDOW AND CHILD. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HDM 10/10/1916 AND THE HULL TIMES, ON 10/10/1914, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
HIS BODY WAS NOT RECOVERED AND HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE CHATHAM NAVAL MEMORIAL.
