Hull Pals Memorial Post. PRIVATE ALFRED CHARLES BUTLER 11/263. Born in St.Pancras, Middlesex in 1882 Alfred married Ann Elizabeth Graham in 1907 and the couple resided at 59 Woodhouse Street, Hedon Road, Hull. He’s a tough man to track down. He was originally a part of the Depot Company but saw active service in the trenches and was wounded over there and transferred back home where he died of wounds on 31st July 1916. Alfred is buried at Hedon Road Cemetery in Hull; he was 34 years old. That is as much as I can say for certain, but an Alfred Butler born in Middlesex that same year had served as part of the Army Service Corps during the Boer War and had been discharged in 1912. If that is our man it would explain why I can’t find census information in 1901 and 1911 as he would have been abroad.
