

Born Hull, April 18, 1886. Youngest son of John William and Charlotte Buttery, of “Wath House,” Hall Gate, Cottingham, East Yorkshire, England.
He visited his sister in Canada, where he took a long tour, working as a Stone mason & Blacksmith.
He enlisted in Canada. Served as Sergeant, with the 5th Canadian Infantry (Saskatchewan Regiment). Killed in action, at Cambrai, on 28/09/1918, aged 32
His name is recorded on the Cottingham Roll of Honour, Hull.
Buttery is remembered on family gravestone Eppleworth Road Cottingham Yorkshire UK. Inscription – SERGT LEONARD BUTTERY/ 5TH CANADIAN INFANTRY/ KILLED IN ACTION SEP 28TH 1918/ AGED 32 YEARS/ INTERRED HAYNE COURT FRANCE.
