BORN HULL 1890. SON OF THE LATE JOHN & MARY CALLAGHAN. HE RESIDED WITH HIS SISTER MRS STRATFORD, AT 1 PROVIDENCE ROW, WALKER STREET, HULL. HE ENLISTED IN HULL AND WAS A REGULAR SOLDIER SERVING IN INDIA, WHEN WAR BEGAN.
HE ARRIVED IN FRANCE ON 15TH JANUARY 1915. SERVED WITH THE 2ND EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. DIED OF SHRAPNEL WOUNDS, “TO THE ARM AND BADLY CRUSHED INTERNALLY”. HE DIED, ON 02/05/1915, AGED 25, AT THE 1ST SCOTTISH GENERAL HOSPITAL. BURIED AT ABERDEEN, SCOTLAND. HIS DEATH AND PHOTOGRAPH WERE PRINTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 3RD MAY 1915. *
HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE DIVIDED, BETWEEN HIS BROTHERS, JOHN W, WALTER AND PATRICK, AND HIS SISTERS, MRS JENNY DIXON, MRS LOUISA STEELEY, MRS GEORGINA STRATFORD, AND ALICE.
HIS NAME WAS RECORDED ON THE WAR MEMORIAL AT ST THOMAS CHURCH, CAMPBELL STREET, WHICH WAS DESTROYED IN AN AIR RAID DURING WW2.
