BORN BRIDLINGTON 1888. SON OF RICHARD CLARKE (1838-1900) AND JANE ELIZABETH LEAKE (1851-1936), OF 4 , GEORGES TERRACE, CHILTERN STREET, HULL. A LABOURER.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS CORPORAL, 13734, 8TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. DIED OR WOUNDS, ON 04/01/1916, AGED 28. HE LEFT HIS WIFE ELLEN & DAUGHTER AT 3, PALM GROVE, EASTBOURNE STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).

HIS COMMANDING OFFICE WROTE “WILLIAM CLARK WAS KILLED BY A GERMAN BULLET, RICHOCHETING OFF A TREE AND HITTING HIM IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD.” HE WAS BURIED AT DICKEBUSCH NEW MILITARY CEMETERY. GIVEN A MILITARY FUNERAL AND HIS WHOLE PLATOON ATTENDED. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH ON 24TH JANUARY 1916. *
