BORN HULL 1893. SON OF ALFRED JAMES CLARKE (1870-1940) & CHRISTINA AGNES HUNTLEY (1866-1934). ONE OF SIX CHILDREN. THE FAMILY MOVED TO LOWESTOFT IN 1901. HE MOVED TO EDINBURGH WHERE HE WORKED AS AN APPRENTICE BOTTLE BLOWER AND LIVED AT 19 CANON GATE.
HE ENLISTED AT LEITH, SCOTLAND, IN 1914. HE MARRIED, MARY T. DUDGEON (1896-1987), AT ST MARKS CHURCH, EDINBURGH, ON 19/06/1915. POSTED TO FRANCE. HE SERVED AS PRIVATE, 13310, 8TH GORDON HIGHLANDERS. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 09/04/1917, AGED 23. HE IS BURIED AT FAUBOURG D’AMIENS CEMETERY, ARRAS, FRANCE. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, MARY AT 17 HIGH STREET, PORTABELLO, EDINBURGH (WAR PENSION ADDRESS. SHE RE-MARRIED ANOTHER SOLDIER, WILLIAM HEASTOW, ON 18/01/1918.
