BORN HULL 1889. SON OF GEORGE HENRY COGGRAVE (1848-1930) & SARAH ANN ADAMS (1853-1944), OF 3, GOSHEN PLACE, JAMES STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS) AND 1, CLARENCE PLACE, PORTLAND STREET, HULL. SON OF A YEAST LABOURER. ONE OF TWELVE CHILDREN AND SEVEN SONS.

HUSBAND OF SARAH HARDY (1891-1929), OF 4, YORK TERRACE, HODGSON STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HE MARRIED ON 11/11/1911, AGED 22. THEY HAD A SON HARRY COGGRAVE (1917-1999). HE WORKED AS A RULLEYMAN.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED IN THE 9TH KOYLI. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 21/03/1918, AGED 29. COMMEMORATED ON THE POZIERES MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING
HIS NAME WAS LISTED ON THE ON ST MARYS CHURCH MEMORIAL, LOWGATE & ST MARKS STREET MEMORIAL. LISTED IN THE HDM ROLL OF HONOUR – 21/03/1919 FROM HIS SORROWING WIFE AND LITTLE SON, HARRY – “HE SLEEPS WITH BRITAIN’S HEROES, IN THE WATCHFUL CARE OF GOD”

HE WAS ONE OF THREE SONS KILLED IN THE WAR. HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, WALTER COGGRAVE, 2ND EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, WAS KILLED AT LOOS, ON 29/09/1915, AGED 23.
HIS ELDER BROTHER, LANCE CORPORAL, FREDERICK COGGRAVE, 8TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, WAS KILLED AT SERRE, ON 13/11/1916, AGED 31.
