BORN HULL 17/06/1897. SON OF SHADRACH COLEMAN (1859-1905) & MARY JANE CAULDWELL (1859-1923) AT 3, FOUNTAIN TERRACE, HEDON ROAD, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). BROTHER OF JOHN EDWARD COLEMAN AND MARRIED SISTERS, ANNIE BARLOW, AND MARY JANE ARUNDEL. HE WAS RAISED IN THE SPRINGBANK ORPHANAGE, FROM AUGUST 1906, LEAVING IN 1911.

AN APPRENTICE PRINTER, FOR MR TESSEYMAN, CHURCH LANE, HULL. HE WORKED AS A COMPOSITOR AND RESIDED AT, 8, DE GREY TERRACE, RIPON STREET, HULL (ARMY ADDRESS).

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 25/11/1915, AGED 18 YEARS AND 5 MONTHS.CALLED UP FOR SERVICE IN MAY1916. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 1.5 INCHES TALL, 110 LBS WEIGHT, 33 INCH CHEST. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 17/01/1917. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 23/238, 12TH DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY. HE WAS KILLED AT YPRES, ON 07/06/1917, AGED 19. HIS MOTHER DISPATCHED HIM A PARCEL FOR HIS 20TH BIRTHDAY, BUT HE NEVER RECEIVED IT.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 28/06/1917. *

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOWED MOTHER, MARY JANE. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE MENIN GATE MEMORIAL.
