HE ENLISTED IN THE ARMY, IN HULL, ON 20/11/1914, AGED 33 YEARS AND 156 DAYS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 6 INCHES TALL, 36.5 INCH CHEST, 126 LBS WEIGHT. HE WAS STATIONED AT PAUL. WHILE THERE, HE WAS PUNISHED FOR BEING DRUNK AND CREATING A DISTURBANCE, SLEEPING AT HIS POST, OVERSTAYING HIS PASS, ABSENT FROM DUTY AND BEING DRUNK WHILST ON SENTRY.
