BORN HULL 1893. SON OF EDWARD & FRANCES EDITH CORBETT OF 5 AUSTIN TERRACE, WARWICK STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS), OFF HEDON ROAD, HULL. A SAWMILL SAWYER. HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 12450, 7TH YORKSHIRE HUSSARS. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 28/08/1916, AGED 23. HE WAS KILLED AT 8PM IN A WORKING PARTY. HIS COMMANDING OFFICER SAID THAT HE WAS STRUCK IN THE HEAD BY A MACHINE GUN BULLET AND DIED INSTANTLY. HE HAD WRITTEN TWO LETTERS SHORTLY BEFORE HE FELL, WHICH WERE FOUND IN HIS POCKET AND RETURNED TO HIS FAMILY. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, FRANCES, AND SISTER, ETHEL GREEN (LATER SAVAGE). HE ALSO LEFT YOUNGER BROTHER, WILLIAM.
HE IS BURIED AT LONDON RIFLE BRIGADE CEMETERY, BELGIUM. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “THY WILL BE DONE FROM MOTHER SISTER & BROTHERS”.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 06/09/1916, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
