Cordock, John William

BORN HULL 1887. SON OF ALBERT CORDOCK (1843-1915) AND SARAH UPTON (1852-1931), OF 40 BLAKE STREET, BRUNSWICK AVENUE, HULL. A FORMER LOADER, FOR THE NORTH EASTERN RAILWAYS.

HE MARRIED AT ST MATTHEW’S CHURCH, HULL, ON 12/05/1913. HIS WIFE, FLORENCE LUCY (WEBSTER) & SON, ERNEST, LIVED AT 8, MIDDLETON VILLAS, CLYDE STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS) & 5, PRETORIA STREET, OFF HAWTHORNE AVENUE, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). THEY HAD ONE SON, WILLIAM ERNEST, BORN ON 1ST MARCH 1914.

HE ENLISTED IN THE HULL PALS, ON 21/12/1914, AGED 27 YEARS AND 6 MONTHS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 7.5 INCHES TALL, 152 LBS WEIGHT, 36 INCH CHEST, AND “GOOD” PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT. HE SERVED IN EGYPT AND ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 08/03/1916. TRANSFERRED TO THE 7TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. PROMOTED TO LANCE CORPORAL, ON 05/05/1916. WAS KILLED IN ACTION, DURING A BOMBING RAID, ON 28/06/1918, AGED 29.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 18TH SEPTEMBER 1916, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
HE IS BURIED AT SERRE ROAD CEMETERY No.3, PUISIEUX, PAS DE CALAIS, FRANCE. HIS WIDOW REMARRIED AND BECAME MRS WEBSTER.

His name is listed on the Holmes Street, Roll of Honour, (Hull Daily Mail 29 December 1916).
