BORN BOOTLE, LIVERPOOL 1896. ONLY SON OF JOHN WILLIAMS, AND MARY COUSINS, OF 54, SWEDEN STREET, LIVERPOOL AND 30, CORONATION DRIVE, GREAT CROSBY, LIVERPOOL (ARMY RECORDS ADRESS). HE HAD NO BROTHERS OR SISTERS. JOINED THE LIVERPOOL TERRITORIALS, ON 22/05/1912.
HE THEN RESIDED IN HULL. EX RECKITTS WORKER FROM 21/03/1913. (PHOTO IN RECKITTS MAGAZINE). DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 7 INCHES TALL, 34-36 INCH CHEST, GOOD VISION AND PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT.
HE MOVED TO KIRKDALE, LIVERPOOL. ENLISTED IN LIVERPOOL. JOINED AS PRIVATE, 1533, 7TH KINGS LIVERPOOL REGIMENT. SENT TO FRANCE, ON 17/03/1915. MENTIONED IN DISPATCHES. RECIVED A 90 DAY PUNSIMENT ON 13/06/1916, FOR DISOBEYING A SUPERIOR. HE WAS SENT TO THE FRONT INSTEAD AND KILLED IN ACTION, ON 28/06/1918, AGED 19.
HE IS BURIED AT WAILLY ORCHARD CEMETERY, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION READS, “IN LOVING MEMORY OF MY DEAR SON EVER IN MY THOUGHTS – MOTHER”
HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, MARY, AND ON HER DEATH TO JOHN AND CAROLINE WILLIAMS. HIS MOTHER WAS A DOMESTIC SERVANT, AND ILLITERATE. SHE REQUIRED HER EMPLOYER TO REQUEST HER SON’S MEDALS
