BORN SHEFFIELD 1895. SON OF EDWIN COWLAM (1865-1917). HE LIVED WITH MOTHER JANE NIXON (1875-1950), AT 7 , WALTERS AVENUE, DANSOM LANE, HULL (1911 CENSUS) AND 4 , ALBERT PLACE, BEETON STREET, HULL (ARMY RECORDS ADDRESS). HE HAD THREE BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS. WORKED AS AN ERRAND BOY AND DOCK LABOURER.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. JOINING THE 12TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT (3RD HULL PALS BATTALION). HE TRANSFERRED TO THE 7TH EYR BATTALION, IN FRANCE. KILLED IN ACTION ON 29/07/1917, AGED 22. DURING A SUCCESSFUL, NIGHT, TRENCH RAID, NORTH OF ROEUX (SEVEN MILITARY MEDALS WERE AWARDED).
HE IS BURIED AT BROWN’S COPSE CEMETERY, ROEUX. HE WAS BROTHER TO HORACE, DORIS, LILLIAN, THOMAS AND IVY.
