BORN MAIDENHEAD, BERKSHIRE, 1894. SON OF WALTER AND ELINA CUMING, OF 18 KIRBY ROAD, LEICESTER. YOUNGEST OF FOUR CHILDREN. BEFORE THE WAR HE WORKED AS A HOISERY WAREHOUSMAN AND SERVED IN THE ROYAL HORSE ARTILLERY TERRITORIALS. HE ENLISTED IN 1914. HE MARRIED LILIAN ANNIE RAYNER (1892-1976), ON 10/11/1915, AT SCULCOATES, HULL. HE WAS COMMISSIONED INTO THE LINCOLNSHIRE REGIMENT. TRANSFERRED TO THE 5TH CONNAUGHT RANGERS AS A SECOND LIEUTENANT. HE SERVED IN EGYPT AND SALONIKA. INVALIDED HOME WITH MALARIA. HE RETURNED TO FRANCE AND WAS KILLED AT PASSCHENDAELE, ON 31/07/1917, AGED 23. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 4TH SEPTEMBER 1917.
HIS WIFE LILLIAN A GEE, LIVED ‘IVANHOE’ HESSLE COMMON. (HDM 31/07/1919). HER BROTHER, 2/LT. HENRY RAYNER, SERVED IN SALONIKA, AND HER SISTER WAS A VOLUNTARY AID DETACHMENT NURSE AT ARGYLE STREET, NAVAL HOSPITAL, HULL
