BORN HULL 1886. SON OF JOHN (1841-1918) & CAROLINE D’ARCY (1847-1917), OF 4 BLANCHE TERRACE, CONSTABLE STREET, HULL. SON OF A MERCHANT SEAM. MARRIED IN 1906. HIS WIFE LILLY D’ARCY (1887-1976) LIVED AT 33 SEATON STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS) AND 99 WINTERS ALLEY, LAND OF GREEN GINGER, HULL. THEY HAD ONE SON, JOHN HENRY D’ARCY BORN 24/06/1912.
HIS OCCUPATION WAS FRUITIER. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 7 INCHES TALL, 34 – 36.5 INCH CHEST.
JOHN D’ARCY, 38338, 1ST YORK & LANCS, ENLISTED AT HULL IN 1915. SERVED IN SALONIKA WHERE HE CONTRACTED MALARIA. HE HAD RETURNED FROM 15 MONTHS SERVICE AND WAS ADMITTED TO RIPON MILITARY HOSPITAL ON 10/01/1919. HE COMMITTED SUICIDE BY CUTTING HIS THROAT. THE VERDICT OF THE INQUEST WAS “SUICIDE WHILE TEMPORARILY INSANE”, DUE TO ACTIVE SERVICE. HIS MOTHER HAD ALSO DIED OF HEART FAILURE, IN 1917. HIS FATHER DIED IN 1918.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 16TH JANUARY 1919.
