BORN SUNDERLAND 1883. ONLY SON OF JACOB & ELIZABETH DAVIS, SWANN STREET, HULL. WAS A DOCK LABOURER. LIVED WITH HIS SISTER, JANE HOLDSTOCK AND HER FAMILY AT THIS ADDRESS (ARMY RECORDS). HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 13/04/1915. SERVED WITH THE 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. ARRIVED FRANCE 070/7/1916. POSTED TO THE 7TH EAST YORKSHIRE BATTALION. SERVED A 51 DAY DETENTION WHILE TRAINING AND FIELD PUNISHMENTS FOR “IRREGULAR CONDUCT IN THE TRENCHES” “BEING DRUNK, CREATING A DISTURBANCE, RESISTING AN ESCORT” AND “USING OBSCENE LANGUAGE TO AN NCO.” HE WAS REPORTED KILLED IN ACTION ON 5TH NOVEMBER 1916. HE IS BURIED AT A.I.F. BURIAL GROUND, FLERS, ON THE SOMME.
