HE MARRIED LOUISA MARY AGNES WURR, (1865-1965), IN LINCOLNSHIRE IN 1904. THEY LIVED AT 1, ESK CRESCENT, WORTHING STREET, HULL WITH CHILDREN, ROBERT AND WINIFRED. (1911 CENSUS).
A NAVAL POSTMAN. HE SERVED AS ROYAL NAVY, PETTY OFFICER, ON HMS “CLAN MCNAUGHTON”, LOST AT SEA, ON 03/02/1915. THE SHIP POSSIBLY HIT A MINE DURING A SEVERE STORM. NONE OF THE 281 CREW SURVIVED. HIS NAME IS LISTED ON HULL’S ST CHARLES BORROMEO CHURCH MEMORIAL. HE IS ALSO COMMEMORATED ON THE CHATHAM NAVAL MEMORIAL. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, LOUISA, WHO MOVED TO MARKET WEIGHTON.

The Clan MacNaughton was taken over by the Admiralty at the beginning of the First World War and commissioned as an auxiliary cruiser in December 1914, being commanded by Com. Robert Jeffreys. In the early days of February 1915 she was on patrol duty and was last heard of on February 3rd. There was bad weather prevailing at the time and a search of the area where the Clan MacNaughton had been cruising revealed a quantity of wreckage, but no signs of the ship. Her ship´s company numbered 20 officers and 261 ratings.
