BORN DALTON, BARROW IN FURNESS, LANCASHIRE, 19/03/1889. SON OF CHARLES COLLINSON DRURY (1862-1910) & MARY PAYCE (1863-1948).
MARRIED AT ST BARNABAS CHURCH, HULL, IN 1910. HUSBAND OF CATHERINE ELIZA COLLINSON (1892-1975), OF 18, LIVINGSTONE TERRACE, WALCOTT STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). THEY HAD ONE DAUGHTER, EDNA (1914-1944). THREE OTHER CHILDREN DIED AT BIRTH.
A FISHERMAN. HE HAD BEEN AT SEA SINCE THE AGE OF 15 AND HAD SERVED TWO YEARS ON MINESWEEPERS. AWARDED THE DISTINGUISHED SERVICE MEDAL. WHILE SERVING ON A MINEWSWEEPER, HE LOST THE TOP OF HIS RIGHT THUMB, TRAPPING IT BETWEEN THE ANCHOR AND THE SIDE OF THE SHIP. TWO OF HIS BROTHERS, WILLIAM AND GEORGE, HAD RECENTLY BEEN DISCHARGED FROM MINESWEEPERS. HE WAS THIRD HAND, ON THE STEAM TRAWLER, SCOTLAND, BELIEVED TO HAVE STRUCK A STRAY MINE, BETWEEN 4TH-13TH MARCH 1919. HE WAS AGED 30 AND LEFT A WIDOW AND CHILD. HIS NAME IS RECORDED IN THE CWGC AND LOST TRAWLERMAN OF HULL RECORDS. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, 09/04/1919.
Built as the SCOTLAND for Hull Steam Fishing & Ice Co Ltd, Hull; Yard No 182; Launch Date: 17/03/1897; Lloyd´s Register 1918-19 No 758; In Jan 1919 sold to B. Knowles, Hull. The Hull trawler SCOTLAND (H348) sunk 15 miles SE of Flamborough Head, possibly mined.
