Hull Pals Memorial Post. PRIVATE JAMES WILLIAM EDDISON 11/1154. Born in January 1878, James was was the fifth of six children to Eli and Hannah Eddison of 65 Copley Street, Armley, Leeds. A Hairdresser by trade, James was a good bit older than most of the other volunteers and was perhaps lured by one last chance of adventure as much as he was by the call of King and Country. I’m speculating of course. James travelled to Hull to enlist and joined the 11th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, ‘The Tradesmen’, 2nd Hull Pals. James was wounded in the fighting following the German withdrawal to the Hindenburg Line and evacuated to the hospital centre at Boulogne where he died of wounds on 8th March 1917. He is buried at Boulogne Eastern Cemetery; he was 39 years old.
