SON OF JOHN BRYAN EDMOND (1859-1946) & SARAH FENWICK (1873-1933), OF 53, ST ANDREWS STREET, BEVERLEY (1911 CENSUS); 12, DEVON AVENUE, ST PAUL STREET, HULL; 27, FINSBURY GROVE, FOUNTAIN ROAD, HULL AND 9, EARLES ROW, WITHERNSEA STREET, WILMINGTON, HULL (CWGC & WAR PENSION ADDRESSES). SON OF A TANNER’S LABOURER. HE HAD FOUR BROTHERS, GEORGE, SIDNEY ALFRED AND JAMES AND TWO SISTERS, ALICE AND CATHLEEN MAY.
A SINGLE MAN. HE WORKED AS A FARM SERVANT. HIS ARMY RECORDS DESCRIBED HIM AS, 5 FOOT, 5 INCHES TALL, 143 LBS WEIGHT, 37 INCH CHEST, “GOOD” PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT, FRESH COMPLEXION, BROWN EYES, BROWN HAIR, WESLEYAN RELIGION
HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 18/09/1914. SERVED WITH “A”COMPANY, THE 12TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT (HULL SPORTSMEN BATTALION). HE TRAINED IN HULL. MOVED TO DALTON HOLME ARMY CAMP, ON 16TH FEBRUARY, 1915. TRANSFERRED TO RIPON ARMY CAMP ON 18TH JUNE 1915 AND THEN MOVED TO SALISBURY ARMY CAMP ON 29TH OCTOBER 1915. POSTED TO EGYPT ON 14TH DECEMBER 1915. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 6TH MARCH 1916. HE HAD SURVIVED THE BATTLE AT SERRE ON 13TH NOVEMBER 1916 AND THE ATTACK AT OPPY WOOD, ON 3RD MAY 1917. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 14/05 1917, AGED 22.
COMMEMORATED ON THE ARRAS MEMORIAL, FRANCE. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, JOHN, WHO MOVED TO 27 FINSBURY GROVE, FOUNTAIN ROAD, HULL.
HIS MOTHER RECEIVED A WEEKLY WAR PENSION, OF THREE SHILLINGS AND SIX PENCE, ON 4TH DECEMBER 1917.
