BORN HULL 18/08/1899. ELDEST CHILD OF WILLIAM HENRY ELLEY & LAURA BEATRICE HARDY & HIS GRANDPARENTS, ALL LIVING AT 27 NICHOLSON STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION & CWGC ADDRESS). ONE OF SIX CHILDREN. WORKED AS A PACKER. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 9 INCHES TALL, 126 LBS, 35 INCH CHEST, DARK BROWN HAIR, GREY EYES

HE ENLISTED AS PRIVATE, 23992, EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, AT THE OUTBREAK OF WAR, BUT DISCHARGED AS UNDER AGE. HE RE-ENLISTED AT WEST HARTLEPOOL, ON 01/04/1918. PREVIOUSLY SPENT 3 YEARS IN THE 87TH, WEST YORKHIRE, TRAINING BATTALION. HE DIED IN BELGIUM ON 13/04/1918, AGED 18. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE PLOEGSTEERT MEMORIAL.

HE LEFT A FINACEE, VIOLET HARPER, AT 15, WARNFORD TERRACE, STANLEY STREET, HULL.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, 07/08/1918 & 20/12/1918.
