Son of James and Mary Fairbank of Winter Hill, Sproatley, East Yorkshire. A farmer’s son, working on a farm (1911 Census) and later a Meat Salesman (Army Records). Described as % foot, 7.5 inched tall, 126 lbs weight, Chest size 36 inches, Church of England religion.

Husband of Emily Dann (formerly Fairbank) of Winter Hill, Sproatley, Yorkshire and 53 Errol Road, Hove, Sussex.. Born Sproatley, enlisted Barnsley and resident Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, resident Windsor, Berkshire. Mobilized on 09/12/1915, at West Hartlepool. Remained in the Reserves. Posted to France, on 13/07/1917. Posted to the 6th Yorkshire Regiment, on 01/04/1918. Transferred to the 1st East Yorkshire Regiment, on 03/04/1918. Killed in action, on 28/05/1918, aged 33.

Commemorated Soissons Memorial. His name is listed on the Sproatley Village memorial. One of 61 men form the Sproatley who served in the Great War, 13 of which died.
