BORN HULL 1891. SON OF WILLIAM FOSTON (1872-1947) AND MARY ANNE LOWSLEY, (1868-1951), AT 11 CHAFFERS WAY, HOLDERNESS ROAD AND 35 RAIKES STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS). ONE OF EIGHT CHILDREN. JOHN FOSTON MARRIED ANNIE E.L. WICKS, IN HULL, BETWEEN JULY- SEPTEMBER 1914. HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. ARRIVED IN FRANCE ON 02/11/1914. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION ON 21/11/1914, AGED 23. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL TIMES. HE WAS AWARDED THE 1914 STAR, BRITISH WAR MEDAL AND VICTORY MEDAL. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WENT TO HIS WIDOW, ANNIE E.L. WICKS, AND THEIR YOUNG DAUGHTER. HIS WIFE HAD BECOME A BRIDE, WIDOW AND MOTHER ALL IN ONE YEAR. THEIR DAUGHTER, LIVED TO BE 100 YEARS OLD. HE ALSO LEFT BROTHERS, WILLIAM, JAMES, TOM, AND SISTERS, KATE. BETSY AND SARAH.
BURIED: RATION FARM MILITARY CEMETERY, LA CHAPPELLE-D’ARMENTIERES, NORD-PAS DE CALAIS, FRANCE. HE IS RECORDED AS KILLED ON HULL’S NEW GEORGE STREET ROLL OF HONOUR (Hull Daily Mail 03 November 1917)
