ONLY SON OF RICHARD FURLEY (1852-1929) & LOUISA SCOTT (1859-1943), OF 95, WESTBOURNE AVENUE, HULL. HE HAD ONE SISTER, JUDITH (1883-1977). SON OF A SHIPPING AGENT. EDUCATED AT KEABLE COLLEGE, OXFORD. HE WAS A THEOLOGICAL STUDENT STUDYING AT MIRFIELD COLLEGE (1911 CENSUS).

HE ENLISTED IN SHEFFIELD. FORMERLY 41400, ROYAL FUSILIERS. SERVED WITH THE 8TH LONDON REGIMENT. WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 07/10/1916, AGED 35, NEAR GUEUDECOURT. HE LEFT £757 IN HIS WILL AND HIS ARMY EFFECTS TO HIS FATHER, RICHARD.

HE IS BURIED AT BEAULENCOURT BRITISH CEMETERY, LIGNY-THILLOY, PAS DE CALAIS, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “IN THY LIGHT WE SHALL SEE LIGHT”
