SS Hidalgo, built by Northumberland shipbuilding Co. Ltd., Newcastle in 1908 and owned at the time of her loss by Ellerman Wilson Line Ltd., Hull, was a British steamer of 4271 tons.
On August 28th, 1917, Hidalgo, on a voyage from Manchester to Arkhangelsk with general cargo & munitions, was sunk by the German submarine U-28 (Georg Schmidt), 120 miles NE1/2N from NordKapp. 15 persons were lost. They included his countrymen:-
