HE ENLISTED IN HULL. FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 2782 EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. TRANSFERRED AS PRIVATE, 241926, 5TH BORDER REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 29/09/1918, AGED 21. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS PARENTS, SAMULE AND EDITH.
HE IS BURIED IN FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “IN LATER BATTLES TOO FAR AWAY YOUR GRAVE TO SEE BUT NOT TOO FAR TO THINK OF THEE”
HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, GEORGE HIGHSLIPS WOOD GEDNEY, 53298, DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY, WAS DISCHARGED FROM THE ARMY, AND DIED IN HULL, ON 03/07/1919, AGED 20. ANOTHER BROTHER, BOMBARDIER, JAMES ARTHUR GEDNEY, 15121, ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY, SERVED IN FRANCE FROM 06/11/1914, WAS WOUNDED AND DIED IN SEPTEMBER 1926, AGED 44.
