BORN WILSDEN, BRADFORD, 1895. HIS FULL NAME: GEORGE HIGHSLIP WOODS GEDNEY. SON OF SAMUEL GEDNEY & EDITH AMBLER (1855-1926), OF 58 NORWOOD STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). SON OF AN ENGINE DRIVE. ONE OF EIGHT CHILDREN. EMPLOYED AS A BARMAN BEFORE THE WAR.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 25/10/1915. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 18/12/1916 TO 1/05/1917. SERVED WITH 11TH DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY. WOUNDED BY GUN SHOT IN THE CHEST ON 13/04/1917. RETURNED TO FRANCE, ON 6/02/1918. RETURNED HOME ON 22/08/1918 WITH A FEVER. DISCHARGED FROM THE ARMY, ON 30/06/1919. DIED OF TUBERCULOSIS AND BRONCHITIS, A WEEK LATER, AGED 24. HE IS BURIED AT HULL WESTERN CEMETERY.
