BORN HULL 1894. SON OF THOMAS & MARY GILLIAT, OF 73 RYDE STREET, HULL. AS A LAD HE WAS CONNECTED WITH THE BOYS LIFE BRIGADE (BLB), AT EBENEEZER CHAPEL. ALSO ONE OF THE ORIGINAL MEMBERS OF FIRST HULL BLB COMPANY WINNING THE FERENS CHALLENGE CUP.
HE WORKED AS A STATIONERS ASSISTANT (1911 CENSUS). HE WAS ALSO EMPLOYED BY HEDON ROAD CARS AND WORKED ON HULL TRAMWAYS.
HE WAS HUSBAND OF MARION GILLIAT WHO LIVED AT 17 VANE STREET, HULL & 132, FOUNTAIN ROAD, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE 8TH EAST YORKSHIRE BATTALION. WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 18/08/1916, AGED 23. BURIED AT SERR, SOMME, FRANCE.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 30/08/1916. *
