Born Hull 1897. Eldest son of George Henry Glew and Mary Hannah Glew, of 3, Bower’s Terrace, Waterloo Street, Hull. Third of eight children. He was employed at a wholesale newsagents on Waterloo Street and was working for the Brittania Oil Mills, when war began.
He enlisted in Hull on 05/08/1914, aged 17 years and 34 days and served with the East Yorkshire Regiment for twelve months. Described as 5 foot, 5 inches tall, 116 lbs weight, 34 inch chest, blue eyes, brown hair. Ex, Private, 3/6355, 3rd East Yorkshire Regiment. He was fined eleven times for absence on parade, during his training, and discharged on 23/06/1915, after 323 days service. He was underage, never out of trouble and his military character was described as “Bad”. He re-enlisted under conscription, in 1916. Served as Private, 267200, 1st/6th Northumberland Fusiliers. Killed in action, on 26/10/1917, aged 20. is death was reported in the Hull Daily Mail, on 26/11/1917. *
