BORN HULL 1895. SON OF FREDERICK AND SARAH ANN GOODING AT 23 SIDMOUTH STREET, HULL AND 1, SALISBURY CRESCENT, NEWLAND AVENUE, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). HE SERVED IN THE MERCHANT NAVY ON THE STEAM SHIP “HYNDFORD” (Glasgow). DROWNED WHEN HIS SHIP WAS ATTACKED BY ENEMY SUBMARINE ON 15/03/1915. HE WAS AGED 19. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED AS HULL CREWS LOST IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL. COMMEMORATED ON THE TOWER HILL NAVAL MEMORIAL, LONDON
HIS OLDER BROTHER, RIFLEMAN, ARTHUR GOODING, KING’S ROYAL RIFLE CORPS, DIED OF WOUNDS, 4 MONTHS LATER, ON 30/07/1915, AGED 23.
1915 WAS A SAD YEAR FOR THE GOODING FAMILY. BOTH BROTHERS ARE RECORDED ON THE WW1 MEMORIAL AT ST JOHNS, NEWLAND, CLOUGH ROAD, HULL.
