BORN HULL 1882. ELDEST SON OF EDWARD MAWER GREEN (1852-1934) & MARTHA REBECCA GREEN (1857-1933), OF 187 ELLA STREET, NEWLAND AVENUE, HULL. HIS FATHER WAS A POST OFFICE INSPECTOR. HE HAD TWO BROTHERS, HERBERT AND CHARLIE AND THREE YOUNGER SISTERS, CISSIE, CLARA AND ANNIE.
EMPLOYED AS A POST OFFICE CLERK WITH HIS BROTHER HERBERT. HE MARRIED SARAH JANE BUCKLEY AT HULL IN 1915 AND LIVED WITH HIS IN LAWS, AT 4 ELIZA PLACE, WALKER STREET, HULL. THEIR ONLY CHILD, EDWARD, WAS BORN ON 15/07/1916.
EDWARD GREEN ENLISTED AT HULL CITY HALL ON 05/10/1914 AND SERVED IN THE 12TH EAST YORKSHIRE (HULL SPORTSMAN PALS) FOR TWO YEARS. HE WAS HIT BY A HIGH EXPLOSIVE SHELL AND KILLED IN ACTION ON 16/08/1916, AGED 25. HE WAS BURIED AT LE TOURET CEMETERY, RICHEBOURG-L’AVOUE, FRANCE. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDO, WHO RECEIVED A WEEKLY WAR PENSION OF 15 SHILLINGS, FROM 05/05/1917.
EDWARD GREEN’S NAME WAS RECORDED ON THE WAR MEMORIAL AT ST THOMAS CHURCH, CAMPBELL STREET, HULL, WHICH WAS DESTROYED IN AN AIR RAID DURING WW2.
HIS BROTHER, SIGNALLER, THOMAS HERBERT GREEN, 82144, MACHINE GUN CORPS, WHO LIVED AT 64 PERTH STREET, HULL, WAS KILLED AT PASSCHENDAELE, ON 09/07/1917, AGED 34. HE IS BURIED AT BRANDHOEK CEMETERY, BELGIUM. HE LEFT FIVE CHILDREN AND STEPCHILDREN.
HIS OTHER BROTHER, CHARLES ARTHUR GREEN, ALSO SERVED IN THE MACHINE GUN CORPS AND WAS DISCHARGED AFTER THE WAR, WITH MALARIA (SILVER BADGE NO: 118533).
