BORN HULL 1887. SON OF JOHN BROWN GRIFFIN (1856-1907) & ANNIE ELIZABETH TROWHELL (860-1904), OF 4, OCKLEY TERRACE, WEST PARADE, HULL (1901 CENSUS) & 64 WEST DOCK AVENUE, HULL. HE HAD FIVE BROTHERS AND ONE SISTER. HE WAS A DOCK LABOURER.
HUSBAND OF CHRISTIANA, AT 2, FERN GROVE, RUGBY STREET, HESSLE ROAD, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS)
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. WAS A REGULAR SOLDIER WITH THE 1ST BORDER REGIMENT (1911 CENSUS). TRANSFERRED TO THE 2ND BORDER REGIMENT WITH THE BRITISH EXPEDITIONARY FORCE. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 18/12/1914, AGED 27.
HIS DEATH AND PHOTOGRAPH WERE PRINTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 23RD FEBRUARY 1915. *
HE LEFT TOM, RICHARD, & ANNIE GRIFFIN ALSO AT 4 OCKLEY TERRACE, WEST PARADE, HULL. HIS BROTHERS BROTHERS ALSO SERVED IN WW1.
CHARLES GRIFFIN SERVED AS BOSUN ON THE STEAM SHIP, “MAURITIUS” AND WAS LOST AT SEA, ON 17/05/1915, AGED 20.
ANOTHER BROTHER, SERGEANT, JOHN REUBEN (JACK) GRIFFIN, 2/6TH DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY, WAS AWARDED THE DISTINGUISHED CONDUCT MEDAL, ON 22/08/1918. THOMAS GRIFFIN SERVED IN THE ROYAL FLYING CORPS; JAMES JARVIS GRIFFIN SERVED IN THE MERCHANT NAVY; AND RICHARD GRIFFIN, SERVED AS A GUNNER IN THE EAST RIDING RGA.
